Glassal designed and installed roof lights and frameless glass screens within a sympathetically refurbished and converted castle in Blantyre.
The traditionally constructed castle was converted into a boutique hotel and extended to include a wedding and function venue. A frameless glass enclosure seamlessly links the castle with the extension. Structural double-glazed units are held within aluminium perimeter channels that provide support and weather protection whilst being installed onto the existing stone walls with concealed fixings.
A self-supported Vitral roof light was installed atop the oak roof support structure of the function suite and wedding venue. The roof light incorporates a series of electrically operated opening vents that do not require additional framing and therefore have the same slight lines as those of the fixed light adjacent panes when in the closed position.
